SRD Grant (R370) Status Check
The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant pays R370 per month to unemployed South Africans aged 18 to 60 who have no other income support. It is confirmed through March 2026. The SRD grant is the only SASSA grant that can be applied for online and has its own dedicated portal.
To check your SRD status, visit srd.sassa.gov.za and enter your ID number and phone number. You can also check via WhatsApp (082 046 8553), USSD (*120*69277#), SMS (send “STATUS” + ID to 32555), the data-free Moya App, or by calling 0800 60 10 11.
The SRD grant is reassessed every month, so your status can change from one month to the next. For a complete walkthrough, read our SASSA SRD status check guide.
Child Support Grant (R530) Status Check
The Child Support Grant (CSG) pays R530 per month per child to the primary caregiver of children under 18. It is the most widely received SASSA grant in South Africa, supporting millions of children.
To check your Child Support Grant status, visit services.sassa.gov.za, call the SASSA helpline at 0800 60 10 11, or visit your local SASSA office. Applications are done in person at a SASSA office, not online.
You qualify if you are the primary caregiver of a child under 18, you are a South African citizen or resident, and your income is below the means test threshold. For the full guide, visit our Child Support Grant status check page.
Old Age Grant (R2,190 / R2,210) Status Check
The Old Age Grant, also known as the State Pension, pays R2,190 per month for beneficiaries aged 60 to 74, and R2,210 per month for those 75 and older. It is one of the most important social grants in the country, providing financial support to senior citizens.
Check your Old Age Grant status at services.sassa.gov.za, by calling 0800 60 10 11, or at your nearest SASSA office. Applications are done in person at a SASSA office.
To qualify, you must be 60 or older, a South African citizen or permanent resident, and pass the means test. For the complete guide, visit our Old Age Grant status check page.
Disability Grant (R2,190) Status Check
The Disability Grant pays R2,190 per month for people aged 18 to 59 who have a disability that prevents them from working. The grant can be temporary (6-12 months, subject to review) or permanent, depending on the nature of the disability.
Check your Disability Grant status at services.sassa.gov.za, by calling 0800 60 10 11, or at a SASSA office. A medical assessment by a SASSA-appointed doctor is required as part of the application.
Eligibility requires being aged 18-59, having a confirmed disability, and passing the means test. Temporary grants need to be renewed before they expire. For the full guide, visit our Disability Grant status check page.
Foster Child Grant (R1,190) Status Check
The Foster Child Grant pays R1,190 per month per child for people who have been appointed by a court as foster parents. The grant continues as long as the court order is valid and the child is under 18 (or under 21 if still in school).
Check your Foster Child Grant status at services.sassa.gov.za, by calling 0800 60 10 11, or at your nearest SASSA office. Applications require a valid court order from the Children’s Court.
There is no means test for the Foster Child Grant. Your eligibility depends on having a valid court order. The biggest issue is court order expiry, which can stop payments. For the full guide, visit our Foster Child Grant status check page.
Care Dependency Grant (R2,190) Status Check
The Care Dependency Grant pays R2,190 per month for parents or caregivers of children under 18 who have a severe disability requiring permanent care. This is one of the higher-value SASSA grants, recognising the significant costs of caring for a child with severe special needs.
Check your Care Dependency Grant status at services.sassa.gov.za, by calling 0800 60 10 11, or at a SASSA office. A medical assessment of the child is required.
Eligibility requires being the parent or caregiver of a child under 18 with a severe disability, passing a medical assessment, and passing the means test. For the full guide, visit our Care Dependency Grant status check page.
War Veterans Grant (R2,210) Status Check
The War Veterans Grant pays R2,210 per month for former soldiers who served in World War I, World War II, or the Korean War, and their surviving spouses. This is the smallest SASSA grant programme by number of beneficiaries, as very few qualifying veterans remain.
Check your War Veterans Grant status at services.sassa.gov.za, by calling 0800 60 10 11, or at a SASSA office. Proof of military service is required.
To qualify, you must have served in specified wars, be 60 or older, and pass the means test. Surviving spouses must provide a marriage certificate and death certificate. For the full guide, visit our War Veterans Grant status check page.

Understanding Your Status Result
Regardless of which grant you are checking, most SASSA status meanings follow similar patterns. “Approved” means your grant is active and payments are being processed. “Pending” means SASSA is still assessing your application. “Declined” means your application was not successful. “Suspended” means payments have been temporarily stopped.
If your grant has been declined or suspended, do not panic. There are steps you can take to resolve the issue. Understanding the specific reason is the first step.
What to Do If Your Grant Is Declined
If any SASSA grant application is declined, you have the right to appeal. Here is what to do.
- Find out why: Contact SASSA at 0800 60 10 11 or visit your local office to get the specific reason for the decline.
- Gather supporting documents: Depending on the reason, you may need additional medical reports, proof of income, or other documents.
- Submit an appeal: For the SRD grant, use the online appeals portal at srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals. For other grants, visit your SASSA office or submit a written appeal.
- Meet the deadline: Appeals must be submitted within 90 days of the decision.
For a step-by-step walkthrough, read our complete SASSA appeal guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which SASSA portal do I use to check my status?
If you have the SRD R370 grant, use srd.sassa.gov.za. For all other grants (Child Support, Old Age, Disability, Foster Child, Care Dependency, War Veterans), use services.sassa.gov.za.
Can I receive more than one SASSA grant?
Generally, you cannot receive more than one grant for yourself. However, you can receive a grant for yourself (such as Old Age) and a separate grant as a caregiver for a child (such as Child Support or Foster Child). Each child can only receive one grant.
How often are SASSA grants paid?
All SASSA grants are paid once per month on specific dates. Payment dates are published by SASSA at the start of each year. The SRD grant is typically paid during the last week of the month, while other grants are paid on fixed dates earlier in the month.
What is the SASSA means test?
The means test is how SASSA assesses whether your income and assets are low enough to qualify for a grant. Each grant has different thresholds. The SRD grant has a simple income limit of R624 per month. Other grants consider both income and assets, with different limits for single and married applicants. The Foster Child Grant does not have a means test.
Can I apply for SASSA grants online?
Only the SRD R370 grant can be applied for online at srd.sassa.gov.za. All other SASSA grants must be applied for in person at a SASSA office. Bring your ID, supporting documents, and proof of income.
